Is xbelly in Red aros man made or purely due to genes?

I pose this qns as a fellow hobbyist insists that the xbelly traits in red can be achieved by man made.
Hence I will like to gather opinions from fellow red aro keepers, as my experience in red aro keeping is limited to on 5 yrs only
I believe that crossbelly traits is only limited by the genes as most of the reds we see are mostly white belly.
Seldom do we see reds having rim coloration on the belly.
Is it possible that crossbelly will come with age for all red aros or do we need to use a way (Tanning???) to bring out the rim colors?
Pls contribute...
There is no right and wrong answers as different hobbyist have different ways to groom their aros. What we desired most is to bring the best out of each aro.

>Hi Matthew,
I believe the hobbyist you are refering to is me.
Yes, X-belly is man made. How ? By tanning and grooming.
So sorry, I would nt elevobrate more.
Red Intensity - Dependent on genes
Full Face - dependent on genes
Betta Tail - Man made ? nope to me
Just me pose a very simple question,
Can the offsprings of both X-belly parents confirm to have X-bellies ?
Similarly, can the off-springs of non X-Belly Parents have X-Belly ? Yes, they can have it.
Would greatly appreciate your inputs why you claims X-bellies are due to genes.

>can you post a pic of a xbelly? but base from my understanding and experience. Every now and then , a farm may produce an exceptional fish . Just like people, genetics play majority of functions. I want to be 6feet tall but my genes do not allow me to do so. No matter how much calcium I eat, no matter how much I sleep. My height will always be 58 and there is nothing I can do about it. I can wear heels but who am I kidding.
I think the same with fishes too. some will come out "Much red" than the others. according to the website of "Not t be arrogant but we are the best in the world", if you put a fish with good genes in mud, even with out light, if it is red, it will turn red. There is no denying that tanning helps but sometimes , it is hard to beat good genes.
example. Not so ugly woman + make up= Beautiful woman
Ugly woman + 3 bottle of beer= Beautiful woman
Gorgeous woman + 0 = Gorgeous woman
Beautiful woman + no make up = beautiful woman
this is my opinion though, I think the same principle applies to arowanas.
Regular fish + tanning = Beautiful fish
Superb fish + 0 tanning = Superb fish

I am not in the position to say that xbelly parents will have xbelly kids or vice versa.
As when i purchase my aros, I do not have the chance to view the parents at all.
I claim that xbelly in reds is due to genes is becos, i do not often see reds with cross belly or maybe i am ignorant
You can pm me on the tips and secrets in developing xbelly if you are uncomfortable in sharing it in public.
I am open to all ways of grooming red aros as grooming them to their best form is the most challenging compared to the types of aro.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I am not against you in any way.
I apologise if you are angry that i zap you on your comment on "xbelly traits in red is man made"
I zap bcos i feel that the comment is untrue to my knowledge.

2 years experience in Aro grooming can consider newbie ?
I am still learning on
1. Aro selection
2. Management of Aro illness
3. Improving on Aro grooming.
FYI, I ever bought and kept sbp reds just for learning purposes
when I start keeping Aro.

what was the outcome in curing the sbp reds???
Successful?
>Nope, not all.
A failure.
Not all sbp are non curable. Air trap sbp are curable though. Chances are, might recur again.
Again, still have to depend on individual fish
>From experience, it is man-made. People who do side-tanning will understand this. The fact we see most red aros not having xbelly and having white belly is because of the lack of exposure of light from the side. However, the extent of the redness, depends on the genes of the fish. Also, the age matters! This is what many people tend to ignore and start whacking their young fish with tanning.
This is from what I have experienced. Try to have an open-mind since it is a topic of discussion. If you strongly believe it is not man-made, so be it. It is just like how some people feel strongly against SW. Some say will cause problems to the digestive tract and lead to protruding anus as they have EXPERIENCED it. Some dont believe as their aros dont face such a problem. At the end of the day, up to you! No stress, no conflict!
